The SR Group complete ‘Crazy 5 in Five’

Over 100 people in five cities across four continents took part in The SR Group’s running challenge, the ‘Crazy 5 in Five’.

The challenge saw 1833 miles covered worldwide and over £20,000 raised in aid of Sport Relief and the company’s charity of the year, Shooting Star Chase.

SR Group employees from the London, New York, Sydney, Frankfurt and Dubai offices, along with clients and friends, took on five half marathons in five consecutive days from Monday 14th March to Friday 18th March. The Crazy 5 in Five participants were supported throughout the week by colleagues, who tackled either one, two or three half marathons, or a 10k relay.

The 13.1 mile route around central London took in the sights of the capital, including Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace, Westminster and the London Eye - while international runners in Sydney passed the Opera House, and New York participants completed their leg in Central Park.

The Crazy 5 in Five raised a total of £22,575.82 for Shooting Star Chase and Sport Relief, which will be split equally between the charities and is over double the challenge’s sponsorship target. Shooting Star Chase cares for children with life-limiting conditions and their families in London and Surrey and has been The SR Group’s corporate charity of the year since 2014.

Crazy 5 in Five participants included The SR Group CEO, Mark Brewer, Shooting Star Chase’s CEO, David Burland, and Paul Chandler, whose son and family are supported by the children’s hospice charity.

Brewer said, “This was certainly one of the craziest challenges that I have taken part in.  Devised and organised by our head of training, Leila Hudson, and our marketing executive, Katie Sadler, this event grabbed the imagination of staff and clients around the world. I am completely in awe of those who ran five half marathons in five days and am very grateful to everyone who so generously donated their time and money.”

Sylvia La Porte, corporate relationship manager at Shooting Star Chase, commented, “The SR Group are a delight to work with and have thrown themselves into fundraising for the charity since they came on board, having already raised a massive £13,000 for Shooting Star Chase.

“When they suggested the Crazy 5 in Five I knew it would be a great success but it’s exceeded all our expectations – to have that many people take part in the challenge and to have doubled their donations target is phenomenal.

“The funds raised will make a huge difference to the families we support who are going through every parent’s worst nightmare, and we can’t thank The SR Group enough.”
