Connex Education to bring its supply staff onto its payroll
Connex Education is to bring all its supply staff onto its own payroll today, a move it says it has been working towards for some time.
Based in Liverpool, the national education supply company has 19 branches and thousands of teachers and other school staff on its books.
Explaining the move, Connex director, Scott Day, said, “We select our staff very carefully, expect a lot of them and are very proud of them. Our business is built on the quality of their skills and we feel it is right that they are part of the Connex family and have the same privileges and transparency of payment that other workers enjoy.
“The often convoluted pay arrangements for people working in the agency sector are unpopular and hard for staff to understand. The recent Budget further complicated this picture - and we are seeing agencies adding further layers of complexity to already arcane payment systems in an effort to manage the situation and keep their staff at a financial arm’s length.
“Working within education is too serious a responsibility to be approached from a solely profit-based position. We are very proud of the quality of our staff and we do not want them to lose out because of external influences. We want to show them they are valued - so we are bringing them all in-house.”
