The Work Crowd shortlisted for two FSB London Business Awards
Online talent marketplace, The Work Crowd, is a finalist in two categories at the FSB London Business Awards, which recognise enterprise and innovation in the Capital. The Work Crowd has been shortlisted in the Enterprising Business category, while its founder, Alice Weightman, is also in contention for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Winners will be announced at a Gala Dinner on 28th July.
Launched in September 2015, The Work Crowd is a digital platform that connects freelancers to businesses in search of cost-effective PR and marketing support. The business says it has been recognised for its role in transforming and simplifying the traditional freelance recruitment model, providing businesses with direct access to freelancers without a recruitment fee, while giving freelancers an online platform through which to win and manage projects.
With the PR and creative industry worth £76.5 billion in the UK alone, and predictions that 60% of its workers will be independent by 2020, The Work Crowd has its sight set on this growing marketplace. The business has already seen strong demand and growth to date, with a community of over 1,100 freelancers and 325 clients developed in less than a year.
Weightman is a serial entrepreneur, having founded her first business, Hanson Search – now an award-winning executive search and headhunting firm - in 2002. She states she was inspired to launch The Work Crowd after noticing a growing demand for more flexible talent and job opportunities in the marketing and communications industry. She did so while maintaining an active role in Hanson Search and as a single mother to two children.
Weightman commented, “It’s been an exciting 12 months and I’m hugely proud of what the business has achieved in that time, making life easier for both freelancers and clients, while developing a thriving community. I believe passionately that greater flexibility enables people to continue to work no matter their personal circumstances, and The Work Crowd is helping deliver that flexibility for many more people. We’re delighted that the FSB London Business Awards has recognised our hard work so far and we can’t wait to find out the result later this month.”
Steve Warwick, regional chairman and head judge at FSB, said, “We are delighted with the calibre of entrants this year, allowing businesses such as ‘The Work Crowd’ to shine.”
