The Recruitment International Fantasy League Gameweek 2

United still on same points as City. Hull City that is
Hull have been absolutely brilliant in their first two games but whatever you do, don’t run away with the idea that they could do a Leicester or even a Bournemouth. Mike Phelan has spent almost his entire post playing career as a coach or an assistant manager and spending 5 years as Taggart’s number 2 can’t have done him any harm at all. He’s been able to put all that experience to great use at the KCOM. However, with just 13 fit senior players in his squad and 10 short days before the end of the current window, Hull’s chances of having anything but a desperate campaign are slim indeed.
There was quite a bit of refereeing controversy over the weekend at the bet365 when Mike Dean awarded no less than two penalties for holding and obstruction. There’s been a new directive about holding and blocking in the box and it does have a bearing on Fantasy League teams. As we all know, the received wisdom is that you should pick full backs as your defenders because they get some assists. One of the standard defensive tactics in the real game is that at set pieces the defending team will have a couple of blockers whose job is to frustrate centre backs running in from outside the box – fouling them in other words – and heading the ball towards goal with a running jump. All that will stop with the new rules providing they are implemented consistently. Does this mean that the John Terry’s of the world will increase their goal and assist tally and bag a lot more FL points at set pieces? Keep an eye on it.
In our league the early front runners have taken off like a train. We all know how crucial it is to get a good early start before everyone starts picking the same players and all teams morph into one. This season, we’re introducing a new feature that tells you what the best team in the whole league looks like. You might be surprised because there doesn’t seem to be any great revelations here. They just seem to pick the obvious players and they always pick the most popular choice as their captain. Think about that before you do your team after a Friday night on the lash and decide on captaining an unusual choice because of the fixtures. According to the stats, it rarely works out.
We’ll be weeding out the non-recruitment sector managers and those from overseas over the next few weeks and we won’t be featuring them in any of our tables or awards.
In our league, the Top 10 are as follows:
Manager of the Week
Wow. 86 points and what a front line. Aguero, Ibra and Negredo up front backed up with that scorer of superb goals, Capoue in midfield and a goalie most of us haven’t even heard of in Hull’s Jakupovic wins Daniel this week’s Manager of the Week award.
Great start to your entry into our league Daniel.

When your defence brings you 39 points alone you just know you’re onto a good week. Add to that a 41-point attack of Ibra, Negredo and Kane and you’re well on your way to the top which is just what you need when last week you only managed 38. However, with 87 points this week alone we don’t think that Arsenal fan will be stuck in 73rd place next week.
An excellent come back Jon.
The Best of the Rest
At 107th place with 75 points we find City fan James Metcalfe. James went for a 5-man defence plus goalie formation this week and they all did well except his £47 million record signing John Stones. The usual suspects up front of Aguero and Gray didn’t do him any harm though.
Well done James. Page 2 beckons.
What’s up with Kloppo’s boys? Leaking 5 goals in 2 games ain’t good whatever your ambitions but for a club like Liverpool it’s terrible. Even putting in James Milner at left back didn’t help as he contributed to one of Saturday’s goals by chatting to his colleague. Oh dear. At least the new stand at Anfield should be ready next week and they can play at home but that won’t sort this mess out.
Get them binned!
One to watch..........
No, we hadn’t heard of him either until we settled down to watch the Sunderland Boro game yesterday and were amazed at how good this guy was. The Uruguayan scored 12 in 37 games for Espanol last season and if there’s anyone who knows his Spanish football it’s Aitor Karanka who spent 3 years at Real as Jose’s assistant. At just £4.9m and less than 1% ownership he has to be a consideration if you’re going for the cheap striker option.
Team of the Week
The top manager of the whole league this week is Harvey Busby who scored 118 points this week alone. That’s more than most of us got from two gameweeks. So what’s his team?
And he played his Bench Boost of Shaqiri, Bellerin and van Aanholt.
Not bad eh?

Team names please
The reason we ask for your agency name as part of your team name is because it's the only way we can ensure that we are paying the prizes out to the correct managers and that those managers are genuinely in the recruitment industry.
With the latest hacking of our league from semi-professional FL-ers, its even more important. Please help us manage the league better by doing this.
However, those of you who aren't putting in your team names are missing out on some great publicity for your agency and, as recruiters tend to be competitive creatures, isn't it better to beat you rivals in business AND in the fantasy league?
