Create a manifesto for modern workforce, urges Nova Contracting
As a new review of employment status and practice gets under way, Nova Contracting is urging its leader to create a manifesto for modern workforce.
The review, led by the Royal Society of Arts’ CEO, Matthew Taylor, aims to determine whether current definitions of employment status need to be updated to reflect new forms of working.
Nova Contracting director, Marcus Green (pictured), said, "The contracting sector continues to prove its compliance, responsibility and resilience in the face of an ever-changing legislative landscape and deserves clarity and consistency on its employment status.
“This review presents a major opportunity to provide that much-needed clarity and recognise the need to support modern working patterns. Demand for temporary workers continues to grow and the popularity of flexible working continues to increase – we need a framework for employment which optimises the benefits of that trend for employers, contractors and ultimately consumers.
“As well as addressing thorny issues such as IR35 and travel and subsistence allowance, the review has the scope to explore positive opportunities for temporary workforce. There is no one size fits all for contractors. They work in a wide variety of sectors and in businesses of all shapes and sizes across the UK. A manifesto for the modern workforce would embrace that diversity and include a variety of employment models, tailored to each contract’s specific needs and objectives.”
