Sellick Partnership raises funds for hospice with charity football tournament
Business professionals from across Greater Manchester participated in the finals of the eighth annual Manchester Professionals’ Football League (MPFL) as it came to a conclusion this week.
The MPFL, hosted by Sellick Partnership, is a 5-a-side football tournament for the Manchester business community, which has seen rapid growth over the past eight years. This year’s competition saw 24 organisations from across Greater Manchester play football to help raise vital funds for St Ann’s Hospice. Some of the businesses that were involved in the tournament included EY, NatWest and last year’s winners, The Money Advice Group.
Ray Wareing, MPFL organiser and Sellick Partnership director, commented, “The league is an excellent opportunity for professionals across the North West to showcase their skills not only on the pitch, but off it too, and we are proud to have hosted such a successful and competitive league in aid of our chosen charity St Ann’s Hospice.
“This year’s event has been the most successful to date – and I am delighted with the amount of teams that participated and supported the league. As always the commitment and competitive nature of all teams made it a thoroughly enjoyable competition and the standard of football was excellent throughout.”
After a tense finale on Tuesday 21st February, Savills beat BDO to win the 2017 MPFL Cup. Commenting on the win, team captain, Hayden Manifold, said, “What a superb seven weeks of football, with some stiff competition put in front of us and some outstanding performances on the pitch. The spirt of each game and the league overall has been exemplary, and most definitely the best year yet.
“As a team we are really proud to come out as winners of MPFL 8. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ray, Hugh and everyone involved for their hard work in organising the competition and also for the money raised to help a fantastic charity. We look forward to defending our title in 2018.”
Zeus Capital are also celebrating after beating PwC to take home the MPFL 8 Plate, and Nathan Burgess from BMI Healthcare was crowned Man of the Tournament, having won four man of the match titles, marking the end of the MPFL 8 competition.
The MPFL is part of Sellick Partnership’s ongoing philanthropic programme and will add to the thousands of pounds already donated to St Ann’s Hospice over the past ten years through other charitable commitments.
Jo Burton, corporate fundraiser for St Ann’s Hospice, added, “We are delighted to see the Manchester business community getting involved with the Manchester Professionals Football League again.
“We are also incredibly grateful to Sellick Partnership for once again organising the league. It costs £500 a day to care for one patient on our inpatient ward, which is why we’re so grateful to everyone taking part. We simply couldn’t continue to provide care for our patients from across Greater Manchester without support like this.”
