Oscar’s managing consultant named North West’s Young Recruiter of the Year
Oscar’s managing consultant, Melissa Houghton, has been named as the Insider North West Young Professionals Awards Young HR / Recruitment Professional of the Year 2017.
Judges were impressed by Houghton, highlighting her “percentages and good repeat business and noted she had exceeded targets” in a category which included some of the brightest and most promising talent in the North West Recruitment sector.
The awards, which took place in Manchester’s Lowry Hotel on 20th April, celebrated the best businessmen and women under 35 years of age across the region in a range of categories.
At 24 years old, Houghton was made Oscar’s youngest managing consultant and now manages its largest permanent IT recruitment team.
This accolade is Houghton’s third in a highly successful 12 months. Having won Consultant of the Year at the Drum Recruitment Awards 2016, she also received a Highly Commended award in the hotly contested Made in Manchester Awards’ Recruitment / HR Professional of the Year category.
She commented, “I am thrilled to win this award. It was completed unexpected given the number of talented recruiters on the shortlist.
“The past 12 months have been really successful for myself, my team and for Oscar. We have been making a strong name for ourselves in the IT recruitment space with our industry knowledge and the service we provide, which is a great testament to the training and support every member of the team receives here.
“It means a lot to win an award dedicated to the North West, being based in Manchester and working every day with clients and candidates in the local area.”
The win continues a positive start to 2017 for Oscar, having already been named on the Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For list and claiming Best Corporate Graduate Site at the Onrec Awards.
Andy Morrell, group director at Oscar, said, “Everyone at Oscar is extremely proud of Mel and it’s been a pleasure to witness her blossom and grow from a fresh faced graduate into a mature and credible business woman.
“Mel’s success hasn’t come easily; she was one the hardest working individuals we’ve ever had in our School of Excellence Training Programme. She lives our values every single day with all of her clients, candidates and colleagues.
“I’ve rarely come across such incredible self discipline, and this matched with her great humility and upbeat and positive manner have created a truly inspirational young lady.”
