Barker Ross celebrates 30th anniversary with 30 Acts of Kindness
Barker Ross is marking 30 years in business with 30 Acts of Kindness – an initiative which lets people connected with the company support the causes closest to their hearts.
Instead of holding a big party to celebrate its milestone birthday, the Leicester-based UK recruitment firm has asked staff, candidates, clients and contacts to nominate people and charities who would benefit from a helping hand.
Paul Ross (pictured), chief executive of Barker Ross, said, “We wanted to do something different to mark our special anniversary, so we decided to make it all about helping others.
“Through 30 Acts of Kindness we can give something back to our local communities, and rather than choosing just one charity for the year, we’re asking our people to nominate the causes which matter most to them.
“This can be anything from supporting a seaside trip for local disadvantaged children or sponsoring a charity abseil through to paying an elderly neighbour’s gas bill or replacing a stolen bike.”
So far this year Barker Ross has given sleeping bags to homeless people in Nottingham, delivered Easter eggs to a children’s hospital in Buckinghamshire and donated groceries to food banks in Milton Keynes.
Elsewhere, logistics team leader, Luke Ball, has raised £400 for the Teenage Cancer Trust by completing the “tough mudder” challenge, while senior recruitment consultant, Chris Birtle, is in training for the 2018 Prudential Ride London cycle ride for Primrose Hospice in Worcestershire.
Also nominated is former Barker Ross worker Mateusz, who lost his sight aged just 25 due to a hereditary condition. Now back in his native Poland, he needs financial assistance to buy the medication which will help him see again.
Other acts of kindness have included crowd funding initiatives for a little girl from Tamworth who has a brain tumour, a young boy with cerebral palsy and children and adults living with spina bifida.
Louise Thompson, Barker Ross, group HR and talent manager, added: “We’ve had some great nominations from staff across the group and we’d also love to hear other suggestions from our candidates, clients and contacts.”
