APSCo Awards for Excellence 2018 winners announced

The winners of the 2018 APSCo Awards for Excellence - sponsored by NatWest and 6CATS International - were revealed yesterday evening (16th October) during an exclusive dinner at Coutts. The awards were presented by Professor Heather McGregor, Executive Dean of Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.

Ann Swain, APSCo chief executive, said, “These awards are now universally recognised as the most prestigious accolade in professional recruitment and are a unique indicator of standards throughout the sector and I’d like to thank everyone who made yesterday’s event such a blinding success: the judges, our sponsors and all who entered.

“Feedback from the judges was once again overwhelmingly positive, and it is always a privilege to witness first-hand the outstanding examples of best practice and innovation that forward-thinking businesses share with us during the processes. Margo Leftly, co-managing director of Healthier Recruitment, commented, “While HCAs are, in theory, relatively easy to source, finding the quality and volume of talent that organisations need at this level is a perpetual challenge for internal hiring managers, particularly within mental health. The reality is that low barriers to entry and lengthy time-to-hire, mean that a high percentage of applications will be low-quality and potential candidates can easily be lost to other sectors. When we developed this solution, we knew it was going to be transformational, but the fact that this has been recognised by the wider recruitment profession is both humbling and a true honour.”

Michael Johnson-Ellis, co-managing director of Healthier Recruitment, added, “To be shortlisted for, and ultimately win, this award is testament to the impact that Healthier Recruitment is having on the market. The amazing work our team is doing to change perceptions and prove that permanent recruitment and effective workforce consultancy services is possible in healthcare is finally being realised and our passion for this market is recognised. Supporting our clients to not only tackle their workforce challenges but to help predict future talent trends to offer support sets us aside.”

Harnham CEO, Simon Clarke, shared, “We are incredibly proud to have won this award. It reflects our tireless drive to achieve excellence within service, delivery, training and development.”

Pete Holliday, managing director of Sopra Steria Recruitment, commented, “While there are many awards which invite submissions from the recruitment sector, the APSCo Awards for Excellence have a reputation as the most eminent and robust. It is a great honour for Sopra Steria Recruitment to be recognised for being top of the pile in the MSP / RPO market once again following previous recognition in 2014, and we are particularly proud that the judges acknowledged the value of our Optimum Vendor™ model - a managed recruitment service which gives optimum flexibility, without locking clients into a defined delivery or service structure. I’d really like to thank our fantastic team as without their hard work, accolades such as this would not be possible. It’s thanks to our people, that we are able to do things differently and work in true partnership with customers to build long-term relationships.”

“I am really proud of what we are building and the positive impact we are having,” said Steve Brown, director at Empiric. “Feedback from Atos epitomises what we are striving to achieve… ‘On day one [the girls] were saying they were interested in careers in tech but because of family pressure and social expectations they were looking to have careers in medicine. By the end of the week they were doing A-Level Computer Science. Having the opportunity to see that shift has been amazing’. ”

Marie-Clare Fenech, head of corporate partnerships at NTG, added, “It has been very rewarding to see the positive impact the Next Tech Girls initiative is having on the girls and that more and more businesses and schools are getting involved. From placing 100 girls in year 1, it has grown massively and we placed over 120 girls in June of this year alone.”
