Carmichael Fisher appoints new principal for life sciences
Carmichael Fisher has appointed Tarquin Bennett-Coles as principal consultant in life sciences.
Based in Cambridge, Bennett-Coles will be responsible for driving the UK growth over the next 12 months and beyond whilst working with existing clients in the EU and North America. The life sciences division is one of the newest and fastest-growing parts of the business and Carmichael Fisher says it is excited about this expansion in one of the key global scientific innovation hubs.
A graduate from the University of Cambridge, Bennett-Coles started his executive search career in 1998 and specialised in life sciences. Over the next 18 years, he would go on to hold a number of senior-level roles with some of the UK’s most recognised executive search firms serving the sector – including Carmichael Fisher.
In 2016, Bennett-Coles moved client-side to join pharma giant AstraZeneca as its global talent scout and continues to serve as a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and SiP (Science Industry Partnership) ambassador and volunteer.
Bennett-Coles said, “It is great to be back with Carmichael Fisher and to be given the opportunity to play such a key role in further developing the life sciences practice for the business.
“The sector has seen a rate of transformation over the last 18 months not seen before, which makes life sciences one of the most exciting and forward-thinking fields to operate within. But it also faces a number of major challenges, especially when it comes to talent attraction.
“There is no denying that the UK’s decision to leave the European Union is having an impact on hiring. Several of the biggest pharma employers we have worked with report up to a 30 per cent drop in applications year on year. Add the pressure to keep pace with technological change across the sector to the equation and it becomes clear why it is getting harder to find the talent that is needed.
“It is here that Carmichael Fisher’s track record in finding and securing the right people for the right roles and at the right time has been impressive. My hope is that we can now build on this even further.”
Justin Hobday, CEO of Carmichael Fisher, added, “We are delighted to welcome Tarquin back to the company and for him to be re-joining a division that has become one of the biggest drivers of growth for the company in recent years.
“As well as having extensive executive search experience gained within the life sciences sector, Tarquin also has the benefit of working with one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world.
“This first-hand insight will, I am sure, prove to be invaluable as Carmichael Fisher continues to build on its already-extensive network of strategic partnerships with several of the leading players across the biotech, pharma, healthcare, medical technology and diagnostics fields.”
