In January 2019 Cordant People partnered with Centrepoint. The company’s aim has been to not only fundraise for this charity but to use its skills and expertise as a recruitment business to help young homeless people into the world of work.
Recently, MD, Kelly Kendall, attended the opening of Centrepoint's Apprenticeship House.
The building was opened by none other than Prince William and marks Centrepoint's 50th Anniversary. Apprenticeship House will house seven young people who have been provided apprenticeship opportunities to get them into employment with an affordable housing option whilst still receiving the incredible support offered by Centrepoint.
Cordant People is partnering with Centrepoint as they embark on their new Independent Living Programme to assist with work placements, career advice and recruitment industry expertise. The next stage of the programme is due to open in Spring 2020, offering up to 30 young homeless people affordable, independent living and employment opportunities.
Kelly Kendall, MD of Cordant People, said, "Partnering with Centrepoint and knowing that we are able to use our recruitment skills and knowledge to help offer young people opportunities that they may not have had access to otherwise really brings the spirit of Cordant's Social Business mission to life. I am incredibly proud of the work we have done with Centrepoint over the past 10 months. Our partnership has grown from strength to strength and we are honoured to be a part of the Independent Living Programme."
On Thursday 14th November, over 200 people from 45 businesses across Lancashire came together at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa for the fourth annual Blackburn Youth Zone Quiz.
The quiz is organised by Blackburn-based Cummins Mellor, who are also Patrons of the Youth Zone, a 21st century youth hub located at the heart of Blackburn, aiming to change the prospects offered to young people in the area.
As well as the quiz, the evening saw a raffle with 28 prizes donated by Lancashire businesses, from afternoon tea at The Lowry Hotel to an Amazon Echo Show 5 and Manchester United Europa League tickets.
After 10 rounds of questions, the end of the evening saw the title of ‘BYZ Quiz Champions 2019’ go to WHN Solicitors, who were presented with a trophy and medals made by members of Blackburn Youth Zone.
The £13,286 raised on the night will go towards the Youth Zone’s ‘Get a Job’ programme, facilitated by the team at Blackburn Youth Zone. This programme is aimed at supporting young people aged 16 – 24 years, gain the right skills for employment.
The money raised for the programme from last year’s event has seen 36 young people enter into employment, education or training, a further 28 enrolling onto college courses and over 81 young people aged 14 and over taking part in masterclasses delivered by Blackburn Youth Zone Patrons.
Cummins Mellor’s senior consultant and quiz organiser, Amy Hutcheson, said, “What an incredible evening! It was brilliant to have so many of our clients and local businesses coming together to support our local community. Blackburn Youth Zone is a wonderful charity and together we are supporting our future generation.
“Congratulations to the worthy winners and to all those that made the evening possible. Special thanks go to The Dunkenhalgh Hotel for their generous hospitality, Pierce Accountants for their technology support and Barclays Bank for their match funding. By coming together we’ve all made it happen – thank you.”
