48% see enhanced employee engagement as top strategic HR priority
Enhanced employee engagement is the top strategic HR priority for 48% of HR professionals today, according to Vevox. A fifth (21%) report that the insights gathered from employee engagement will play a role in the direction of future hiring.
A lack of development opportunities was one of the top organisational challenges for attracting and retaining talent, according to 50% of HR leaders. Staff turnover is used as a key performance indicator (KPI) of their internal communications strategy for 40% of respondents. Almost a third (30%) said engagement was hindered by a lack of employee recognition and reward.
To measure success in enhancing their employee engagement, 32% cited increased employee retention as a KPI, with 32% also noting the ability to attract higher quality staff.
Pete Eyre, managing director at Vevox, said, “Employee engagement is really becoming instrumental in the strategic direction of businesses today. It’s great to see how much it’s starting to influence staff induction processes, with organisations now using wider employee insights to inform their recruitment and communication strategies, especially when it comes to measuring the positive impact of internal initiatives such as social events. However, there is still work to do. Most employees feel happier and more valued when management listens to and addresses more of their ideas, so by putting this into practice, businesses can use employee insights to reduce turnover and help to bolster recruitment efforts.”
Taking up internal communications initiatives helps to improve engagement, with 38% noting increased productivity, 34% say recruitment becomes easier, and 28% saw lower employee churn. As a result, 54% of HR professionals are now taking this up to measure the impact on their employee engagement strategy.
Eyre added, “As employers start to realise that a strong employee engagement strategy can yield real results, we will see increasing levels of investment in internal comms and recruitment. Above all, the delivery of enhanced employee engagement will help businesses improve productivity, reduce employee turnover, and attract talented individuals.”
