There is a set calendar in place and the sessions are designed to fit around your senior management team. Denise Walker, Founder MD, Absolutely Business

What I’ve done

I’ve worked in recruitment, sales and service my whole career and loved all of it! I started as a trainee with Reed, and progressed to Consultant, Temporaries Consultant, and Branch Manager, building and running a top 10 sales office. I founded my first business in 1992, a small consultancy providing permanent, contract and temporary recruitment services, developed it to 24 staff and an annual turnover of £4m, before selling 12 years later. For the next 2.5 years, I worked with the REC to establish the UK’s first industry-specific enterprise support service for Recruitment Industry micro businesses and SMEs.

I founded Absolutely Business in 2006, a bespoke training and development company that genuinely grows businesses. I have had the honour to support fantastic quality businesses and their people to maximise potential and turn their ambitious goals into reality.

MottoI have two: “make a difference” and “never stop learning”.

The Title will be ‘Recruiting today for tomorrow: developing talent through apprenticeships’

The recruitment sector currently has a shortfall of 20,000 people. Now is the time to recognise the opportunity presented by the new apprenticeship standards. The presentation will explore the benefits of bringing fresh and exciting talent into the industry and how to retain and develop those already within it through apprenticeships.

What our members say:

“I’ve known RI and David for a number of years and was delighted to be invited to become a member of the Recruitment International Members Club. The quality of speakers and engagement from other members is very good and presented on an industry agenda, as opposed to a narrower recruitment one. We’ve personally benefitted from being part of RI’s and David’s network this year and look forward to working closer throughout 2018.”

Andy Hallett, Director, SThree plc

“I have a real connection with the concept and benefit of club membership. Aside from the simplicity of having the regular opportunity to mix socially with your peer group I have found there to be two main benefits.

“I have the opportunity to send a cross section of my team to seminars that add real benefit. Some of our junior managers have been exposed to influential figure heads of our industry and members of our compliance and marketing teams have come away with new approaches and knowledge. I know from feedback they have loved them.

“I can also think of two occasions this year when I have made a direct change to our business off the back of attending a morning seminar. Post event I have engaged with the speaker about the subject and then gone on to make changes (for the better!), changes that wouldn’t have happened without the introduction through the club.”

Guy Hayward, CEO, Goodman Masson
