One of the booming industries in the UK is not showing any signs of slowing down – almost £30bn is spent on recruitment in the UK alone each year and there is money to be made. SmithCorp has been in the recruitment market for over 12 years and houses 5 different recruitment businesses – jjFOX, Boston Rose, Parker White Consulting , Edgware Associates and Education StaffBank. Primarily working within the education market along with manufacturing SmithCorp has continued to grow year on year. Unlike some recruitment businesses we really do pride ourselves on organic growth. All of our managers and even directors have started as trainee recruitment consultants and have all gone on to be part of the growing leadership team here at SmithCorp. I’m guessing when you do think of recruitment you immediately think about helping those looking for work find jobs. Well actually the reason so much money is generated from it is because it’s actually about helping businesses. Recruitment is a sales role, a b2b service offered to clients to help their business cover or fulfil their staffing needs. Supporting human resources departments across the country recruitment consultants carry out their daily tasks and ensure they find the right people for these businesses. Starting out as a trainee recruitment consultant we will train you and develop you from day one, with two separate induction courses, and thorough training programme in your first six months which you will be mentored through by your own personal mentor. The development doesn’t stop at six months though. As stated above all of our team leaders, managers, directors have come through this system and have continued to develop not only their recruitment skills but their skills in management, leadership and as trainers in our business. As it is a sales role you can understand that the bulk of your earnings come from placing people into jobs and earning commission, however we do offer a competitive basic that rises throughout your first year to £18K. On top of that you can expect to earn around £5-10K in commission year one as you will be developing those recruitment skills and practises. In your first year you are looking at £23-28K – you can earn more but it’s down to you. Year two – you would be looking to increase by another £10K some of this made up by another increase in your basic and again the remainder through your growing commission. By year 4 you really should be pushing past the £70K mark with many of our consultants here earning in excess of £100K regardless of the office location they work in. Currently we are recruiting for all of our offices with roles in Bristol (Clifton), Truro (City Centre) and London (Paddington). OK, so what’s the catch I hear you ask? Well no catch exactly, but this success and wealth doesn’t come without hard work and dedication to your career. Think about any other profession where you can be earning in excess of £50K per year. Doctor? (6 years of Med School), Lawyer (Degree plus LPC probably at your own expense). Well these are both careers you would have to commit long hours and work hard at to succeed. So why put yourself through all of that after long periods in education and spending money you probably don’t have right now? Recruitment is open to all – Degree, Masters, no degree it doesn’t really concern us – we recruit on the person and we are looking for people who want to get on in life. Less about ‘where you come from’ and more about ‘where you are going’.
