Job Description

Background Canterbury Christ Church University has recently created an integrated employability, research and enterprise service with four key areas of focus: employment and enterprise; employability and skills; research and innovation funding; research and enterprise integrity and development. This post is within the Employment and Enterprise Team, which acts as a triage service for external stakeholders looking to work with the University and our students. It represents and promotes the University’s offer to employers, business and funders and signpost on opportunities to relevant staff and teams internally. The team develops local and national links that will enhance the University’s ability to engage in regional development and growth, as well as brokering external agency partnership opportunities such as work-related experiences; including: placements, internships, industry board membership, live briefs, consultancy, volunteering, part-time work (through Unitemps); and research projects including enterprise and knowledge exchange. The Team comprises a Head, four Employment and Enterprise Managers and two Employment and Enterprise Officers. The Role The Employment and Enterprise Officer will assist Employment and Enterprise Managers to support the promotion of the University’s offer to stakeholders, employers and businesses, to deliver employment, work experience and volunteering opportunities for students and graduates, and to support staff and student enterprise activity across our broad subject portfolio. As well as working across the full range of functions, the Employment and Enterprise Office will have a lead responsibility for either Unitemps, the universities recruitment agency. Requirements With a proven track record in stakeholder engagement, sales/recruitment or customer service, including liaising with external stakeholders, businesses and employers to deliver key outcomes for students, staff and the university, the successful applicant will have experience of communicating and delivering an organisational offer of services to external stakeholders, businesses and employers. Key areas of work: Communications and Networks The post holder will maintain and promote information relating to the Employment and Enterprise team and disseminate to staff and students via a range of communication channels including web and social media. You will work closely with colleagues in the department and other relevant professional services areas. You will deal with a broad range of contacts including academic staff, students and employers, and develop a working relationship with hiring managers across the University and external employers. Decision Making and Problem Solving Taking advice from the Employment and Enterprise Managers, the post holder will be required to make decisions relating to the day-to-day running of the service. Planning and organising resources The post holder will be expected to manage their own time and workload effectively, including sourcing candidates for a range of work-related opportunities, for example via mail shots and email. This will include organising all recruitment-related activities, for example conducting pre-screen interviews with candidates and making sure all booking details are sent to the candidate and Hiring Manager. The post holder will lead on internal events such as CCCU Open Days, making sure all students have provided the correct documents and filled in the necessary paperwork in order to comply with legislative requirements. The post holder will need to devise presentations to students and deliver these briefs in lectures and for the Open Day sessions, for example information outlining the Unitemps process including pay and Employment Law. Analysis and research The post holder will contribute to gathering and analysing information that relates to the activities of the team, including writing reports which describe, analyse and summarise performance data, making recommendations as necessary and taking action where appropriate. There is also a requirement for the post-holder to maintain an up to date awareness of Employment and Tax legislation and attend relevant training to ensure a current skills base. For this role you must also have excellent IT skills with the ability to easily navigate and intuitively use database systems.
