HERE’S HOW OUR MANAGING DIRECTOR MIKE VEALE DESCRIBES THE ROLE: - “Many people believe that a Recruitment Consultant spends their day matching applicants to vacancies and filling jobs. Although this is some of what they do it’s really, only half the story. In reality the role is much more involved, and exciting than that. There’s a lot of telesales, attending meetings, designing and running recruitment campaigns, working to deadlines, reacting to and solving problems quickly; and yes, at the end of all this you will match people to the right job and fill employer’s vacancies. To sum it up, it’s all about looking for opportunities to place people into employment, creating and building new relationships with employers and getting out there to find a job for a good worker. If one doesn’t already exist? sell the benefits of that worker to employers and create new opportunities.” SOUNDS EXCITING! SO, WHAT EXPERIENCE OR BACKGROUND DO YOU NEED TO HAVE TO BECOME A RECRUITMENT CONSULTANT? “It doesn’t matter what you’ve done before to an extent, the best Recruitment Consultants I’ve known have come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experience, but there are some things you MUST HAVE: - The Ability to Sell: 80% of the role involves selling of some sort so if you can’t sell or have no desire to sell then you probably won’t make a good Recruitment Consultant. Self Motivation: You’ll be working to targets and deadlines so the ability to motivate yourself to ensure you achieve these is essential. Commitment: Recruitment is a ‘service industry’ and our reputation is built on our commitment to providing the best possible service to our applicants and clients. It’s essential that any new recruits share that same commitment to excellence. The Ability to Work as Part of a Team: Teamwork is just as important as individual success. We believe in creating a culture where everyone takes ownership of their role and responsibilities but also provide help and support to colleagues whenever needed. The only other things you need are a good telephone manner and a full UK driving licence – everything else we can build upon as part of your training” WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO EARN AND ACHIEVE? “Basic salary will range from £18,000 to £20,000 per annum but earnings including commission and profit share should exceed £23,000 to £25,000 in your first year. Many of our consultants earn in-excess of £30,000 in their second or third years. In addition you’ll undergo a recognised training program resulting in a nationally recognised qualification. In terms of your development, well that depends on you, how far you want to go and what effort you’re willing and able to put in to ensure you achieve this. One of the most exciting and rewarding things about the recruitment industry is that with the right employer, like Chase Associates, there is no limit to what you can achieve in the company.” Mike Veale left school at the age of 16 with very average grades and started his working life crushing boxes in the basement of a department store. He then worked as a sales rep for the Gloucester Citizen for 2 years and at the age of 20 got his first job as a Recruitment Consultant.
